PHYLACTERIES for Tuesday

“They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels”   Matthew 23.5

I have always found phylacteries to be an interesting word and an intriguing concept and practice.  The Jews would take favorite words and passages in the scripture and write them down. Then they would tie them to their foreheads and on their left arm with straps. They were called “phylacteries”. The scripture on their arms were worn  around the elbow area so that the words “touched their hearts”; and  on their foreheads where they would help keep these words of God in their minds.

This is sort of like what we do as we sign ourselves before reading and listening to the Gospel:

on my forehead+

on my lips +

on my heart+

” May the words of this Gospel, which are primarily the words of Jesus be:

in my mind  (forehead)

on my lips   ( in my speech)

& in my heart (deep in me)

Where is my everday  Faith/ Belief/ Religion/ Spirituality ???

1. Read all of the Gospel:  Matthew  23.1-12

2. Stop for 5 Minutes and LISTEN…….

3. Try to answer the question  above……

4. Say something to Jesus……..
